11 January Clean and Clear news …

Fingers crossed for good weather on Sunday. It looks like we have a window between Atlantic fronts with a nice yellow blob on the weather forecast.

We recce’d for the Clean and Clear yesterday and found some features that are normally hidden. We think one may be part of the mounting for a steam crane on the river bank, and there is a whole new area in or near the Great Workhouse where it looks like an unknown structure is buried in foliage and earth. At the northern-most end of the Smith Canal there is something to be uncovered, but we are not yet sure what it is. Exciting stuff! Then we had a nice walk up Kilvey Hill.

On Sunday we will concentrate on a stretch of wall above the river bank, the north section of the canal, and litter picking around the site. The path to the south end of the Smith Canal and ferry landing should be much more visible after Saturday’s work party.

Come along on Sunday any time between 10.30 and 2.30. Litter picking implements and clearance tools will be provided, along with expert guidance and help from Keep Wales Tidy. Wear good footwear and gloves, and bring a picnic if you fancy a lunchtime break on the river bank.
