A short preview of the Daniel James animation is available here. The film is an output of the Treboeth Historical Society’s ‘Daniel James Project’ (one of our fellow Connected Communities projects) and will shortly be distributed to local schools. There are plans to share the film with school across Wales. Contact Ivor Williams, Secretary of Treboeth Historical Society for information on accessing copies of the animated film: ivorwilliams01@ntlworld.com

Flickr – The (post)industrial South Wales Valleys
Sarah Rojon, studying South Wales industry, has launched a Flickr site featuring post industrialised South Wales Valleys. There are some very interesting pictures.
“I don’t know if you are on Flickr but I thought that would be nice to tell you about that. I just launched a group called ‘The (post)industrial South Wales Valleys,’ so feel free to join us and to invite people who might be interested : http://www.flickr.com/groups/thesouthwalesvalleys/”
I think that the interactive functionality of photo-hosting sites provide interesting means to create collaborative archives but also to display and discuss cultural sensitivities.
BT Digital Archive
This is an interesting archive. Search for Swansea and there are 315 entries, many from the works and railways of the Swansea Valley. If you find something tell us about it in a comment. BT Digital Archive.

Industrial heritage researcher from France – help wanted
We have had an enquiry from a French researcher working in Swansea until September. If you can contribute to this research please respond via info@friendsofwhiterock.org.uk.
“I am a researcher student in Anthropology. I work on digital images and industrial heritage concerning the urban areas of Saint-Etienne (France) and Swansea. I am interested in pictures and writings posted by Internet users.
“I currently live in Swansea for my fieldwork (until September 2). I would like to meet people who display online images related to the South Wales industrial heritage. I particularly seek to get in touch with former and current industrial workers (miners and steelworkers), but also generally speaking with people involved around this issue. Perhaps you could provide me some suggestions?”

Local History . . . Live! 2013
The third Local History . . . Live! organised by the Swansea Branch of the Historical Association will take place on Saturday 12 October in the National Waterfront Museum. The exhibitors will be in the main hall, with overflow in the gallery.
The centre piece this year is the 60 Second Show and Tell. A stage will be set up in the centre of the main hall. Contributors are given 60 seconds maximum to showcase their object and describe its use and importance. There will be a chair to ensure timekeeping and fair play, and to ring a bell at time out.
Steph Mastoris, Director of the Museum, and Industrial Curator Ian Smith will chair the show and provide expert commentary. Swansea Museum will bring along a selection of ‘touching objects’, and I have a feeling they will be a source of mystery objects too! All will be in a spirit of good fun to engage existing and new visitors in local history events. Bring your objects on the day to amaze and mystify.
